The Lowest

Culture: Everyone’s talking about the $1.8 million spent on the friend.com domain for a wearable microphone that texts you back. Personally I think it sounds incredibly irritating as a product. Not enough reports mention that it is a 21 year old founder spending this money on a AI friend product. Why not just join a social sports team or get into the open mic scene like a normal person Avi Schiffmann? $1.8 million is so much money to spend on advertising your own loneliness. I do think the ad (AI made?) is a must watch, a 2 minute episode of black mirror. (The bit that grates on me the most is when she calls her kebab ‘dank’). If you are feeling friendless this is a good article on breaking up with a friend on social media.
Eating: Sometimes I like to eat burger rings on a walk. I used to walk home from the pub in the evening and leave them behind me like a Hansel and Gretel trail in case I lost my way. It still provides me with a firm sense of protection. Eventually I remember that these are an Australian made snack and not an American input and I will have to stop my walk and have a think for a while.
Wanting: This cardigan from SEA. They have a whole range with this embroidery and I am obsessed, though absolutely can’t afford. I showed both my mum and my partner a potential wedding dress from this brand and they both absolutely hated it, so it may be a good thing it is out of my price range (or my new goal might be finding the most hated wedding dress of all time).
Watching: Endless clips and reading articles about the badass South Korean shooter Kim Ye-Ji. This is the entry point into the Olympics I needed. Great casual style, holding her daughters elephant toy, the look of a calculating super villain. Maybe the olympics finally has joined the future.
Clicking: The latest clicker game on the rise is ‘Banana’. A banana you can click on with the chance to spawn new bananas and banana skins. An evolution of the original ‘Cookie Clicker’ but more insidiously about making a profit and acting as a bot daycare. Thought I don’t fully understand the mechanics of how it makes money, it seems to be something to do with the rareness of the bananas that you spawn by clicking and can then trade on the Steam Marketplace. A comment on Steam argues that based on the maximum of 3 banana drops per day and 40,000 total players both the game developers and Steam are earning roughly $12,000 a day from this nothing game. An ordinary player is likely to make between 0.1 - 0.3 cents. Anyway, I might try and make one where you click on a microphone to tell jokes in order to fund my own comedy dreams.
Other mentions of note: Had Five Guys for the first time in Australia as a nod to the best meal I had in Edinburgh. Opened for Atsuko Okatsuka at the Palms in Melbourne. Fell in love with these Tim Andraka illustrations. Enjoyed the new menu at Benchwarmer. Want this Ice Cream Factory turned house.
Most Awful
Most awful thought today has been waiting for the mechanic to call with a final figure for getting my cars break pads replaced.
Mechanics need to get better at communicating why something is important to spend money on because i’ve been avoiding doing this for two and a half years now and nothing terrible has happened. Apparently I’m meant to be worried that a warning light is always on? They’d be shocked how quickly you can get used to that.
Spending money on a car only to get it back and it seeming exactly the same is a waking nightmare. Is there any worse way to suck away at your savings?
